Welcome

A place to exhale in the bushveld.

Serene Stay began with a simple intention — to create a place where the modern traveller could exhale. Set inside the , a secure 680-hectare reserve in 's Limpopo Lowveld, our boutique collection of six suites is shaped around the rhythm of the bushveld.

Days here move at the pace of giraffe wandering between marula trees. Evenings are measured in the colour of the sky. Your hosts are always present at night and available throughout the day — close at hand to arrange a private safari into Kruger or recommend the best coffee in town.

The Setting

Where the bush meets the mountains.

Hoedspruit sits in the Lowveld at roughly 500 metres above sea level, on a sweep of warm savanna plain that runs eastward toward the Kruger National Park. To the west, the land lifts dramatically into the Klein Drakensberg — the northern reaches of the Drakensberg escarpment — with peaks rising past 1,900 metres and views over the Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon on earth and green all year round.

The Serene Stay is a peaceful BnB situated at Rotsvy 239, , in the heart of Hoedspruit, Limpopo.

Our BnB offers six comfortable two-person bedrooms, each designed to provide a calm and relaxing stay surrounded by the natural beauty of the Lowveld. With quality linen, en-suite comfort, air conditioning, thoughtful finishes, and access to a shared pool and outdoor area, guests can enjoy a refined yet relaxed bushveld experience.

Whether visiting Hoedspruit for safari, business, a romantic getaway, or a quiet escape, The Serene Stay offers a warm and elegant home away from home.

Our Story

From Belgium to the bushveld.

The Serene Stay began as a shared dream between two brothers from Belgium who fell in love with the Lowveld and decided to create a place where guests could experience it the way they first did — quietly, slowly, and surrounded by the bush.

We took over the BnB from another Belgian, Jos, who built this place with love over many years and wanted to leave his baby in good hands.

The Serene Stay was created to offer guests a calm, stylish, and comfortable place to unwind in one of 's most beautiful bushveld towns.

Inspired by the peaceful atmosphere of , the surrounding Lowveld vegetation, and the relaxed rhythm of nature, our BnB is designed to feel private, welcoming, and refined.

Our goal is simple: to provide a serene stay where guests can rest, recharge, and enjoy the unique charm of Hoedspruit.

The Suites

Sleep in style, wake to the bush.

Our six two-person bedrooms are designed for comfort, rest, and simplicity — peaceful, refined spaces to unwind after a day of travelling, working, or exploring Hoedspruit.

Each room accommodates two guests and is suited for couples, friends, solo travellers, and business guests. The interiors are warm, elegant, and bushveld-inspired, with natural colours, soft textures, and carefully selected finishes that create a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

Guests also have access to the shared swimming pool, bar area and comfortable seating area, perfect for relaxing during warm Lowveld days.

Where We Are

The Serene Stay sits at Rotsvy 239, inside the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate — a private game estate where non-dangerous plains game like giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, impala, warthog and a wealth of birdlife roam freely past the verandas. The estate is secured, gated and patrolled, so you can walk to your suite at any hour and sleep with the doors open to the sound of the bush.

Hoedspruit itself is a welcoming Lowveld town nestled between Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon, surrounded by private reserves, wildlife centres, scenic routes and good restaurants. We're roughly 1 hour from Kruger's Orpen Gate, 1 hour 10 minutes from Phalaborwa Gate and 2 hours from Paul Kruger Gate, an hour from the Blyde River Canyon, and just five minutes from Eastgate Airport — the perfect base for exploring the very best of the Lowveld.

Topography & Climate

In the shadow of the Drakensberg.

Hoedspruit sits in the Lowveld at roughly 500 metres above sea level, on a sweep of warm savanna plain that runs eastward toward the Kruger National Park. To the west, the land lifts dramatically into the Klein Drakensberg — the northern reaches of the Drakensberg escarpment — with peaks rising past 1,900 metres and views over the Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon on earth.

This combination of high mountains to the west and open bushveld to the east creates a unique microclimate. The escarpment shelters Hoedspruit from harsh weather systems, while the low-altitude plains stay warm and sunlit almost every day of the year.

A Year-Round Climate

Sunshine in every season.

May – August

Winter

Crisp, dry mornings and warm 24–27 °C afternoons under cloudless skies. Cool evenings invite a fire on the deck. The bush thins out — making it the prime season for game viewing.

September – October

Spring

The bushveld wakes up. Days warm into the high 20s, marula and impala lilies bloom, and newborn antelope appear across the estate.

November – February

Summer

Hot, green and alive. 30–34 °C days softened by dramatic late-afternoon thundershowers that clear within an hour, leaving the air clean and the sunsets electric.

March – April

Autumn

Long golden afternoons, lower humidity and mild nights — arguably the most beautiful season for slow mornings on the veranda.

Hoedspruit averages more than 300 days of sunshine a year, with very little of the cold, grey weather you'll find on the high interior. It's the reason guests return in every season — there is no wrong time to come to the Lowveld.

Heritage

How Hoedspruit — and its greenbelt — came to be.

Long before fences and farm boundaries, the plains around Hoedspruit were a natural corridor for elephant, buffalo and antelope moving between the Drakensberg escarpment and the lowveld rivers feeding what is today the Kruger National Park. The Tsonga and Pulana people lived and traded across this landscape for centuries, leaving stone-walled cattle kraals and rock-art sites still visible in the surrounding hills.

The town itself takes its name — literally "hat creek" — from a 19th-century Voortrekker who is said to have lost his hat in a spruit while trekking through. A small siding grew around the railway line that pushed north toward Phalaborwa in the 1960s, and for decades Hoedspruit remained a quiet farming outpost known mostly for citrus, mangoes and the South African Air Force base established in 1978.

The real turning point came in the 1990s, when neighbouring cattle farms began dropping their internal fences to restore wildlife corridors between Kruger and the private reserves of Timbavati, Klaserie and Balule. Within this wider corridor, a smaller fenced area was set aside as the Hoedspruit greenbelt — a residential wildlife zone where only non-dangerous plains game roam freely between the homes.

The was established as part of this shift: a 680-hectare residential reserve laid out so that homes sit lightly on the land, indigenous bushveld is preserved between properties, and non-dangerous plains game — giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, impala and warthog — share the estate with residents. Strict architectural and environmental guidelines keep the footprint low, the night sky dark, and the bush intact.

Today Hoedspruit sits at the centre of one of the largest protected wildlife landscapes on earth — the Greater Kruger. Serene Stay is a small part of that story: a quiet home inside the greenbelt, in a town shaped by the people, the wildlife and the land that came long before it.
